Job Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares reports and studies for clients to include report writing, analysis, and graphics development.
  • Organizes and prepares work in land use and development planning.
  • Recommends measures affecting land use, community facilities, and housing and development to control and guide community development and renewal.
  • Individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

                viii.       Quality Management - Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.

  • May be required to work after typical hours as project requirements and company needs dictate.
  • Develops and maintains positive customer and client relationships to foster repeat business.
  • Updates and maintains body of knowledge related to training, degree or job responsibilities.
  • Completes assigned work on time and within budget and adheres to company policies and procedures.
  • Inventories and reviews government furnished data.
  • Conducts stakeholder interviews and records meeting notes.
  • Facilitates on-site workshop exercises; records notes and takes photos as assigned by the Task Manager.
  • Reviews and analyzes government database information including real property records, force structure/manning reports, facility condition assessments, and programming documentation.
  • Provides map analysis related to regional demographics and site conditions.
  • Renders site plans.

 

Travel Requirement is approximately 25% or 1 week per month on average including international travel. Up to 5 years relevant experience and/or degree in related field


Job Qualifications:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

·        Knowledge of the philosophies, principals, practices & techniques of planning

·        Knowledge of principles, methodology, practices of research and data collection

·        Knowledge of planning disciplines such as urban design, environmental planning, military planning, economic development or land use

·        Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs as above, plus HTML coding, programming / development capabilities are a plus

·        Solid understanding of GIS use, principles, data standards and projections. Model building and application development is a plus.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

·        Effective communication skills are critical - writing skills, powerpoint, acrobat, and Microsoft office software, including advanced use of Microsoft Excel are preferred

·        Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve less well-defined planning problems

·        Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously

·        Ability to manage time effectively and meet firm deadlines

·        Group facilitation skills for use with community workshops are a plus

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The Planner I requires a degree in planning or related field and one to four years of professional planning experience (internship experience is applicable or military service). Candidates possessing a master's degree in planning or a related field, professional training and/or certifications may substitute professional planning experience. AICP and/or GIS Training Certification is a plus. Specific Military experience is also a plus.
